Construction is ongoing at the Town of Eastham’s second and final water storage tank of their new Municipal Water System!

The District H tank will serve Eastham’s Water System by increasing water storage capacity for the growing number of service connections, creating redundancy and resiliency to enable shutdown of the existing tank for repairs and maintenance, and providing more reserve for emergencies. The composite-style, elevated tank will stand at 135 feet tall and hold 750,000-gallons of potable water. Pouring of the concrete shaft is complete, and welding of the steel bowl is underway. The bowl will then be painted on the ground and hoisted to grade. The tank is scheduled to be operational in December 2024.

EP has partnered with Eastham since 2005 on the planning, design, permitting, and construction of their award-winning, Town-wide Water System. Construction of the system began in July 2015 and first provided water to residents in Fall 2016. The Town has since been building out the rest of the system, and one of the final components is the District H water storage tank.

In June 2023, the Town of Plymouth, MA experienced a sewer force main pipe break on Sandwich Street and quickly made temporary repairs. Shortly after, the Town worked with EP to prepare an expedited plan for design, permitting, bidding, and construction to rehabilitate around 700 linear feet of 10-inch cast iron (CI) sewer force main running from the Holmes Point Pump Station, to the intersection of Sandwich Street and Winter Street.

The contract involved excavating two access pits for cleaning, CCTV inspection, and CIPP lining the approximately 700 linear feet of sewer force main. It also included installing two new sections of 10-inch PVC sewer force main at the access pits to connect to the rehabilitated 10” CI force main, along with associated fittings and appurtenances. As part of this work, the General Contractor, Insituform Technologies LLC, furnished, installed, and maintained a temporary sewer bypass pumping system, which extended from a manhole outside of the Holmes Point Pump Station to a discharge manhole located at the intersection of Sandwich Street and Bay View Avenue.

The General Contractor substantially completed the project on April 9, 2024.

EP is currently working with the Town of Kingston to mitigate roadway flooding on Thomas Street and Ring Road. Increased localized flooding in these low-lying areas cause challenges and safety issues to the community and adjacent property owners.

EP conducted field investigations, borings, hydrologic-hydraulic modelling, and prepared bid and design documents for the Town. The designs incorporate new stormwater treatment for total suspended solids remove of as least 80% and subsurface infiltration below the roadways. The design will add up to 93,000-gallons and 17,000-gallons of stormwater storage and recharge on Thomas Street and Ring Road, respectively.

The project is expected enter the bidding phase this summer.

Thanks to the Asset Management Grant from the MA Clean Water Trust, EP joined forces with the Town of Marshfield to update their stormwater asset inventory mapping. This crucial data empowers Marshfield to make well-informed decisions on resource allocation and funding for maintenance.

As a coastal community, Marshfield faces additional climate-related challenges such as rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and increased flooding. Adequate funding is crucial for asset management and Marshfield must balance limited budgets with the need to maintain and upgrade critical infrastructure.

The secure, streamlined stormwater database combined new and old data into a cost-effective and efficient web-based dashboard, supporting the DPW’s goal to provide essential public works infrastructure and support services for the residents of Marshfield.

EP was happy to attend to the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Town of Easton’s PFAS Treatment Plant last week!

In June 2020, Town Meeting approved funding for a PFAS engineering study to identify long-term PFAS treatment options. The results of that study recommended the installation of PFAS treatment filter plants at wells 1, 2, and 4. In May 2021, Town Meeting approved funding for construction of the three PFAS treatment plants, which was bolstered by a $2 million grant secured by former State Representative Claire Cronin. Construction began in May 2022 and completed December 2023 with all three plants fully operational. The filter plants are installed with ion exchange resin to filter out PFAS to a level of non-detection.

Thank you to the voters of Easton, elected/appointed officials, Town staff, and in particular the Easton Department of Public Works and Water Division.
