Thanks to the Asset Management Grant from the MA Clean Water Trust, EP joined forces with the Town of Marshfield to update their stormwater asset inventory mapping. This crucial data empowers Marshfield to make well-informed decisions on resource allocation and funding for maintenance.

As a coastal community, Marshfield faces additional climate-related challenges such as rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and increased flooding. Adequate funding is crucial for asset management and Marshfield must balance limited budgets with the need to maintain and upgrade critical infrastructure.

The secure, streamlined stormwater database combined new and old data into a cost-effective and efficient web-based dashboard, supporting the DPW’s goal to provide essential public works infrastructure and support services for the residents of Marshfield.

EP is assisting the Town of Abington to address a locally renowned high crash location, the intersection of Hancock Street at Chestnut Street, through the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) funding.

EP’s involvement began with concept development and an assessment of funding alternatives, ultimately leading towards assistance with initiating the TIP funding process, public engagement, and engineered design. A roundabout is proposed to address delays, travel speeds, topography, and sight line challenges.

EP recently assisted the Town of Abington in securing a MassTrails Grant to design an off-road shared use path between the Town campus on Gliniewicz Way to the grid of residential neighborhoods that line Hancock Street.

This new connection will fill a key gap in the Town’s pedestrian and bicycle network, connecting to the recently constructed shared use path extending from the Town Campus to Washington Street across Route 18. As part of this project, the Town will also install wayfinding from Broadmeadow Lane westerly to Ames Knoll State Park, with intentions to extend the SUP or another form of dedicated pedestrian and bicycle amenities to the Park in the future.

EP is currently designing the shared use path, with construction anticipated to begin in late 2024 – stay tuned!

The Brant Rock area serves as an important hub of activity for the Town of Marshfield. EP is designing much-needed safety improvements along Ocean Street and Island Street by incorporating geometric changes and providing enhanced pedestrian accommodations that promote traffic calming and improve pedestrian safety. This project is the first phase of a three-phase project focusing on the Brant Rock area.

The proposed project will reconfigure the intersection, creating a bullnose configuration to improve safety and accessibility for motorists and pedestrians. This configuration will promote slower vehicle speeds by eliminating excess pavement, reutilizing that space to provide a landscaped area and mountable truck apron. To improve pedestrian safety, ADA-compliant crosswalks and curb ramps along all three approaches to the intersection will be implemented. Crossing distances will be dramatically reduced from the inclusion of median refuge islands along each leg of the intersection.

The Town received first Complete Streets funding of $500,000 to pay for some of the construction cost. Construction will start in April and anticipated to be completed by the end of this year.

In effort to promote and support economic growth for the Stoughton, MA community, construction on Phase 1 of the South Stoughton Sewer Expansion project resumed in November 2023! EP continues to work with the Town on a two-phased construction approach to expand sewer service along Park Street and in the Campanelli Business Park.

As part of this project, EP assisted the Town with obtaining a $2.5 million dollar grant through the MassWorks Infrastructure Program and a $350,000 grant through the CARES Act program. The General Contractor on this project, C. Naughton Corp of Bridgewater, MA took delivery of the new Gorman-Rupp pump station equipment for the new Campanelli Parkway Pump Station.

Phase 1 of the expansion was separated into two contracts; Contract 1 involved the installation of 9,200 LF of 8-inch PVC gravity sewer main and 4,300 LF of 6-inch PVC sewer force main, along with associated services, manholes, and appurtenances. Contract 2 consists of the installation of a pre-packaged sewer pump station inside the Campanelli Business Park. Both projects were bid in 2021 and awarded under budget. Construction for Contract 1 was completed in 2023, while construction of Contract 2 is nearing completion and is expected to be completed in early 2024.

To improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety, access, and comfort along Washington Street, EP assisted the Town of Abington in winning another round of Complete Streets Funding to implement ADA-accessible sidewalks and dedicated bicycle lanes.

The project improved pedestrian and bicycle access to Beaver Brook Elementary School and sports fields, as well as residential neighborhoods, and commercial areas along Washington Street. The project will also provide a much-needed connection to the newly constructed shared-use path along Lincoln Boulevard, from the destinations along the subject portion of Washington Street to Abington High School, Abington Town Hall and, Abington’s Public Library. Work also includes the reconstruction of sidewalk and curb ramps to achieve ADA compliance, and installation of on-road bicycle lane striping or Sharrow markings with adjacent signage along Washington Street.

The project as a whole will be instrumental for providing a comprehensive bicycle and pedestrian network in the heart of Abington between destinations where true demand exists for on-road cycling. Construction is currently underway and anticipated to be completed in the Fall.
