EP CARES: Spring Community Outreach 2023

EP CARES continues with our most recent community outreach initiatives. In late March, approx 20 EP team members gathered to make sandwiches, bag lunches, and baked treats to help feed those in need through My Brother’s Table in Lynn, MA. Our 50 lunch meals and 25 dinner meal bags included handwritten notes of encouragement.

In April, three of our team members presented to two 5th grade classes at the Thomas J. Kenney Elementary School in Dorchester where they led an engaging discussion about STEM careers and different avenues of Engineering with the goal of inspiring the next generation of innovative minds!

Thank you to all who helped in making these happen including EP CARES Committee members: Annie Tucker, Cassandra Thompson, and Gopika Chandran; EP CARES Champions: Javier Avila and Karen Chan; and to all EP volunteers!

EP CARES: Future City New England Competition

On Saturday 1/21, EP volunteers Srushti Shah and Jamie Veillette participated as judges in the Future City New England Competition hosted by BSCES (Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section of ASCE).

Future City is a project-based learning program where students grades 6 through 8 imagine, research, design, and build the cities of the future with innovative solutions. This year’s concept was climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies.

Congratulations to all participants and award winners for their hard work and fresh ideas for a sustainable future!

EP Celebrates National STEAM Day!

Today we highlight the importance of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics education. STEAM programs provide opportunities for hands-on learning and innovation, creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration skills that are not commonly emphasized in other fields.

Encouraging and investing in students seeking STEAM careers and addressing the need for diversity within these professions, EP has created 3 unique scholarship opportunities for students in historically under-represented populations to begin, continue, and/or finish their journeys in higher education when pursuing degrees in environmental science, civil engineering, environmental engineering, and/or transportation engineering.
